Annual Adopt-A-Seminary Bishop Appeal
Every Spring all Bishops are asked to support the Annual Adopt-A-Seminary Bishop Appeal. The support from Diocesan bishops and retired bishops helps to fund the on-going operation of the Adopt-A-Seminary program.Â
The Chair of SPCK/USA, The Rt Rev William Skilton, Suffragan Bishop of South Carolina, wrote in May 2006:
The SPCK Board of Trustees recently met in Charleston at which time they reaffirmed the mission of the Society to provide resources for Christian discipleship around the world. In fulfillment of the Baptismal Covenant SPCK/USA will work to see that all people have the opportunity to know Christ personally and be able to read His Word.
One of the items on the agenda was the proposal to assume operation of ECWH (Episcopal Church Web Hosting) as an extended ministry of SPCK/USA. ECWH provides free web hosting to Episcopal churches, missions, and organizations that do not have resources to host their own web sites. This resolution was presented to SPCK/USA by ECWH, and the trustees ultimately decided “to approves the intent of the proposal submitted by ECWH pending final approval of the revised document by the Executive Committee.”
As I reflect on much that has taken place during this past year, it is reassuring to find that the mission of SPCK continues to have support across the braod spectrum of our Church. We have been able to respond to the many needs expressed throughout the communion and this has been a true joy!
It has taken an enourmous amount of work and coordination to make so much happen with limited resoureces, and executive director, and a multitude of volunteers.
Consider that:
- The Anglican Church in India received typewriters, vestments, and theological books
- Over 4,000 theological books, as well as vestments and audio-visual equipment were sent to Cuttington College University in Liberia
- The Rt Rev James Tengatenga, Diocese of Southern Malawi, received 710 theological books
- Msalto Bible College, Dicoese Central Tanganyika, received over 583 theological books
- Bibles, theological books, computers, and typewriters sent to The Rev Roc Kenol in Haiti
- Working with Caribbean Ministries, Bibles, spirituality books, and sets of Interpreters Bibles were sent to Grenada, Trinidad, and Jamaica
- Over 30 young people in Ghana who had taken Christ as their personal Lord and Savior received Bibles
- 60 Books of Common Prayer sent to Church of the Good Shepherd in Vidalia, LA
- Twenty 1928 Book of Common Prayer sent to St Francis Anglican Mission in Hot Springs, SD
- Multiple sets of Spanish/English Christian Education materials donated to the First Methodist Church in Winchester, TN for their growing Hispanic ministry
- Twenty 1929 Book of Common Prayer shipped to Church of the Holy Trinity in Juneau, AK
You know why I am writing…for I do so every year at approximately the same time. I invite each of you to support this vital ministry, sending us $100.00 as your Annual Bishop’s Pledge.
Please let me know if there is any way SPCK can partner with you.
Paz in Christ,
The Rt Rev William Skilton
