Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest and SPCK/USA Partner to Ship Theological Books to Zimbabwe
The senior class of 2006 at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX made the senior gift to a Mildred Mbwando in the Diocese of Manicaland in Zimbabwe…
Mildred Mbwando, mother of 6 girls, dedicated teacher and lay leader in the Anglican Church of the Diocese of Manicaland was sent to the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest (ETSS), January 2004 by her Bishop to do her Masters in Theology.
While at ETSS, Mildred won the hearts of all who came to know her with her quick wit and wisdom. She taught her fellow students of the ways of worship and fellowship of her land. She worked tirelessly on her studies while at ETSS in the midst of great personal loss of her husband and sister. “Mildred showed us all what it is to be dedicated to God’s work first and foremost no matter how hard. She has an overwhelming faith in God and determination of spirit that is glorifying God.”
Mildred returned to Zimbabwe in December 2005 to head up the Training Center for Clergy and Lay People. She is used to starting things from the ground up having started a school in the 90’s for youth, which she and the youth built from the ground up. While the building of the training center exists there are no books, so once again, Mildred is starting from scratch.Â
Out of their love and respect for Mildred, the ETSS senior class of 2006 voted to make their senior gift to the seminary, a gift of books for other seminarians and those training to do God’s work in Zimbabwe. The funds are being sent to SPCK/USA to pay for shipping books from their Adopt-A-Seminary program. This is a great opportunity of partnering to further spread the gospel and its teachings.
“We hope the library at the only Anglican Training Center in Zimbabwe will continue to grow through the help of SPCK/USA. SPCK/USA made what seemed like an overwhelming logistical nightmare easy. We are grateful for their ministry.”
