CHURCH & PEOPLE OF LIBERIA UPDATE
The Rev James Yarsiah writes, “Hopefully the 20 foot container will be shipped to Liberia during the month of September.
Among the many church items that we have received, are the following: approximately 400 fairly used 1979 Books of Common Prayer and approximately 600 1982 & 1940 Hymnals to be distributed among congregations in Liberia. Our target groups are rural congregations. Many rurual congregations in the diocese lack Prayer Books and Hymnals due to the 14 years of the brutal Liberian Civil War that ended in October 2003. There are also clerical shirts, vestments, church linens/hangings, church ornaments, choir and acolyte robes.
The food, clothing, foot-wear, toys, beddings, etc, are to be distributed among orphans, AIDS children, and old folks in Liberia. Other items will benefit churches, clergy, a hospital, and schools.
We are grateful to all the institutions and individuals that have assisted us in reaching out to the church and people of Liberia.
Please keep us in your prayers as we undertake this worthy outreach venture to our brothers and sisters in war ravaged Liberia.”
