Fr James Yariash Container July 2006Under the watchful eye of The Rev James Yarsiah, The Diocese of South Carolina and St Andrew’s Episcopal Mission Church, Charleston, coordinated a campaign to solicit theological books and materials, 1940/1982 Hymnals, 1979 Prayer Books, and vestments for the Diocese of Liberia.  A twenty-foot container has been filled with relief items and theological books to be shipped to the Diocese of Liberia later this month.

The Episcopal Diocese of Liberia, like many other churches and institutions in Liberia has suffered tremendous losses and damages as a result of fourteen years of bitter fighting and destruction. Now that civil crisis has ended, the Diocese, congregations and people are struggling to rebuild their lives and institutions.

Fr James and his wife Ophelia have been friends of SPCK/USA since 2001, when we first partnered with while they were still living in Liberia to provide over 1,000 theological books to begin the library at the Seth C. Edwards Memorial Theological Institute.  Since that time SPCK/USA has shipped over 8,000 theological books, hymnals, liturgical resources, and vestments.Â

Ophelia Yariash Container July 2006This past week, Fr. James packed over 900 books from the SPCK/USA warehouse in Cowan, TN to be included in container that will leave for Liberia in July 2006.

SPCK/USA is greatful to clergy, parishes, and individual doners who contribute to the “Adopt-A-Seminary” program through various gifts.
